internet-explorerMicrosoft has recently released Release Candidate 1 for download!   Neowin.net outlines the new features:

  • Faster: Internet Explorer 8 is more responsive with new pages and tabs, opening up fast and reliably. You can now get to the information you care about most, in fewer steps; one click access to your webmail, favorite news sites or other online services.
  • Easier: Reduce the steps to accomplish many common tasks, and automate your access to real time information updates. You can keep track of your favorite sports team, news, weather with a single click.
  • More Private: Helps protect your privacy and confidential information where ever you go on the web.
  • More Secure: Helps protect and stop malicious software from reaching your PC, and makes it easier to detect when a website is an imposter.

After my RC1 installation, it required a reboot.  At first impression, browsing websites really do seem a bit snappier than IE8 Beta.

More importantly though… as a Microsoft CRM Consultant, I’m wondering if the previous IE Beta issue with workflows has been addressed.  I haven’t yet had time to test its compatibility with CRM,  so be sure to post your findings in the comment section!

This workflow keeps Sales from singing "This land is my land"

This workflow sings "This Land is Your Land" for you.

The workflow functionality in Dynamics CRM is a powerful tool that can automate your standard business processes.  A typical requirement from sales managers is the ability to auto-assign new accounts (customers) to salespeople by state.

To address that topic, the Customer Effective Blog provided an easy to follow walkthrough that spells out all the steps and considerations required to get the sales team up and running. Let CRM do the work for you.

lolcat-serverzWow, those Microsoft Dynamics cats have been busy.  The Update Rollup 2 for Microsoft CRM 4.0 was released! Take a look at the list of fixes included in this update package because it addresses many issues on the CRM Server as well as CRM Outlook clients.

The binaries and full fix information are available at the links below.

Some things to note:

  • The Update Rollup 2 is a cumulative fix from Update Rollup 1.  No need to hold onto Update Rollup 1 files anymore, unless you’re oddly nostalgic.
  • Be careful with importing and exporting customizations to or from CRM systems that have different Update Rollup versions.
  • Some fixes need to be configured manually.

The Dynamics CRM Team Blog comments on a future Update Rollup schedule:

The CRM SE team is planning to release Update Rollups on 8-week cycles; therefore, Update Rollup 3 is scheduled for mid-March. While quality is the focus of every release, we are also trying to be predictable in our release schedule so that our customers can schedule deployments of our Update Rollups with confidence. In November, when we released Update Rollup 1, we set the date of Update Rollup 2 to January 15th and we met this timeframe. We will do our best to establish a release rhythm that our customers can come to depend on.

The full list of fixes from the KB Article after the jump (it is looong!).

crm-sharepoint-web-part-01This news is a bit stale by now, but this web part is too important of a tool to go unmentioned.  The CRM 4.0 SharePoint List Web Part was finally released at the end of December!  Unquestionably, the future of Dynamics CRM is hinged on combining its strengths with SharePoint, and this integration will be prominently featured in the next version (v5.0).

In the past, many CRM developers have created their own web part by modifying the v3.0 version or by other means, which Microsoft would instantly label as an “unsupported solution”.  Fret no more!  The supported Microsoft solution can be downloaded at the link below.  It is easy to install and easy to configure.
